Our 2009 Great American Bake Sale Update
It was a scorching hot weekend, with families busy running the Bay to Breakers, attending dance recitals and running in track meets. Yet despite their busy schedules, over 100 people attended our 2nd annual Music for the Hungry event to benefit Share Our Strength yesterday. Our event was a spin on the Great American Bake Sale, which raises money to fight childhood hunger in America. We brought families together from our elementary school, neighborhood preschool and community to listen to fantastic live music and partake in our BBQ and Bake Sale. So far, we have raised just over $1200! We are only $300 short of my goal – but people can still make donations on our Share our Strength web page, if they feel so inclined…
Many thanks goes out to Andy’s Market, Trader Joe’s, Hint Water and Costco, for donating food and drinks to our event. Their generosity made it possible for us to give even more to this worthy cause. I also want to give a shout out to all of the amazing children who baked and tirelessly sold treats at our event. Not only did they get to practice their culinary skills at home, but they got some real life math experience, collecting money and giving correct change. I am very proud of their hard work and community service. And it goes without saying that our event would not have been possible without the musical talent of the parents and children from Glenwood School and Redeemer Preschool.
We hit a few stumbling blocks along the way (my camera was accidently set to underexpose all of my photos, for example!), but the enthusiasm of the crowd was amazing. Several local families have offered to help organize the event next year so that we can draw an even bigger crowd for the cause. We hope you’ll join us!

Yes, we had a fantastic time. It is wonderful to share an experience with people that is both fun and helpful to the community at the same time.
