Thanks Tiffiny. My daughter loves to cook and is picky too! But at least our little chefs are getting exposed to foods and scents that will prepare them to eat the foods when they are ready to. I just took a look at your blog - love your book idea. Please keep me posted :-)

I love this post! I think people tend to dumb-down food for kids, assuming they won't eat "real" food. The kid's menus at restaurants are a perfect example. I really think by giving kids a chance to taste good, fresh food, they can develop an appreciation for things beyond nuggets and mac & cheese from a box. That being said, I have a 6-year old who is a bear to get to try new things; my 12-year old and 2-year old both eat all kinds of foods. The funny thing is, the 6-year old with the list of 10 (maybe less) things she will eat is the one who likes to help me cook! I'm hanging on to the hope that someday she'll discover all of the good food out there! Thanks again for the post, it was great! :)

Brenda - your girls didn't get to be good eaters by accident! You have set them up for success from the start. Getting them into the kitchen to help makes such a big difference, and clearly you have a good attitude about food.

Karen - Yum!!! That sounds delicious!

Gina - I love that your kids help you plan the meals. They eat with their eyes first, and that helps them buy into the meal!

Thanks Gals!

Excellent recipe. Mini spinach soufflé muffins. Kids love to pull stems from spinach leaves while throwing them in a bowl full of regatta, grated parm and romano, egg, fresh bread crumbs, (flax seed works also) garlic. Have kids scoop mixture in mini muffin pans and let them watch them rise. They also love to chop fruit and stir in their own vanilla yogurt for fruit salad. Always a good rainy day activity

Great post, Michelle! My kids would rather cook with me than bake - they don't have the patience to bake (& they're not big sweet eaters anyway).

We have a kids cookbook that they love "shopping in" to find something yummy. We try to let them plan a meal once a week, and help with meals the other days. They love it!

We create all kinds of food! My girls are kids who are weird (as commented on by their friends and some of my friends) because they love vegetables and fresh everything. Their motto is if it tastes good, they will eat it. They helped me make our Cinco de Mayo dinner last night consisting of beans, rice, enchiladas, and chimichangas. We had a ball in the kitchen. I think their favorite because they can customize what they want is fresh fruit smoothies the way they like them. They love to help with muffins, and yeah the occasional cookie baking day. But mostly, they like just about everything and they eat a lot more when they help in the kitchen which I need my youngest to do because she usually just picks at food but when she helps, she eats a whole lot more. Great blog post!!
