How to make your kitchen more eco-friendly
Jump to Comments
I came across a new blog today and loved one of their articles – it gives 100 ways to make your kitchen more earth-friendly. Some are super simple and others take a bit of time, money or effort. Either way, it is a great series of suggestions!
I’ll tease you with a few of my favorites, but I hope you will visit the article and read the rest. Which ones do you like best?
- Cover foods and liquids in your refrigerator: Uncovered foods will release moisture into the air and make your refrigerator’s compressor work harder than it needs to.
- Put less water in your kettle: By using less water, you will take less time and energy to heat the water for your tea.
- Put lids on pots: You will bring the contents to a boil faster, using less energy.
- Use cloth napkins and towels instead of disposables
- Air dry your dishes: Open your dishwasher’s door at the end of the cycle and they’ll dry naturally in less time than you think.
- Get a reusable coffee filter: Instead of throwing away a paper coffee filter every day, get one that can be used over and over again.

Great tips! We use cloth napkins and it feels so much less wasteful! We also use a French press for our coffee, so no filter is needed. Great ideas on the for the kettle and water in pots!

I’m jumping in on this a little late, but we have started using cloth napkins and a little raffia or ribbon to wrap sandwiches in the lunchbox. We no longer have to use (and then wash) plastic bags or boxes, and the kids seem to really like it. It’s like they’re opening a little present every day at lunch. And surprisingly, there are no complaints about the sandwich being dried out, etc.

Great idea! Kids love when we are creative – and most of us need to share ideas because we get so easily tapped out of our own creativity! Thanks for sharing
