Scrub-a-dub-dub, veggies in a tub…
Looking for ways to get your child into the kitchen? How about having them help you give the veggies a bath before dinner? You do realize that if they play with their food or help you prepare it, they will be more likely to eat it, right?
Here’s a quick how-to:
- Carrots, potatoes, yams and turnips should be scrubbed under cool running water with a stiff brush. You might want to collect the water in a tub to water your plants afterwards. No sense letting it drain…
- Gently scrub veggies with a waxy skin, such as bell peppers, cucumbers, squash and eggplant.
- Be gentle with mushrooms. Use a soft brush or a damp paper towel to wipe off dirt and grit that accumulates on the outside edges. Submerging mushrooms will water-log their delicate membranes and can lead to them being soggy and tasteless.
- A good rinse is all tomatoes, cauliflower and broccoli need.
Helpful tip: If your child loves to play in the water, place some towels on the floor near the sink to avoid any slips afterwards!
