Playdates…for kids AND moms!

Ah, I can fondly remember the days when I was able to have an uninterrupted conversation with a girlfriend.  But alas, every time I pick up the phone or try to engage someone in person, I am interrupted with a hail storm of demands, complaints and arguments from my kids.  I KNOW I am not alone.  That’s why the Playdate Cafe was born in San Anselmo recently.

I brought my kids to the Grand Opening of the Playdate Cafe, where I was able to sit with an amazing group of entrepreneurial moms and have a real conversation.  Our kids played in the beautifully designed “kid” portion of the cafe, equipped with 1/2 of a wooden ship and 1/2 of a castle for their creative adventures.  Occasional peeks into their domain yielded happy kids, some of whom ran past dressed in dragon and lion costumes!

The menu for Playdate Cafe was mostly designed by Jennifer Carden, our good friend, who also wrote The Toddler Cafe, just released by Chronicle Books.  Kids can snack on healthy and fun foods, while moms can enjoy some typical cafe fare, including a whole spread of coffee drinks.

I was so happy to also finally meet Kebby McInroy in person.  She is the founder of Studio 4 Art – another fantastic local business that offers art instruction for children.  Her enthusiasm for her fun, messy and creative work with children was contagious, and at the end of our “play date” I wanted to take one of her classes.

How lucky we are to meet with such amazing women entrepreneurs.  And now we have a location to hang out!
